Wednesday November 30

The grade three’s began their day by working on a good copy paragraph using their animal research from last week. Students then went to the library. The class had the opportunity to finish their letter to Santa which will be mailed today and started working on their Christmas card that will be sent to the hospital for patients over Christmas.

After recess the class had a work period to finish their letters, work on their advent wreaths, good copy animal pictures and Christmas cards. The students then had music.

After lunch the grade three’s had PE. They finished the day with a mad minute (3 minutes) to complete up to 30 double digit and single digit subtraction questions. The students then did a 3 digit subtraction sheet with regrouping in the tens column and hundreds column. We will continue to work on this as many students are still struggling with borrowing from two columns.

Tuesday November 29

The grade three’s began their day with PE. After PE the class talked about the upcoming Advent celebration we are preparing for on Monday. We read The Matchstick¬†Girl and talked about what the celebration will look like. Students signed up for jobs during the presentation. The class then completed their math sheet from yesterday and began a two digit addition review sheet.

After recess the class talked more about Advent, the meaning of the word and why we celebrate. Students used an information sheet to answer 4 questions about Advent. The class then worked on their Christmas wreaths.

This afternoon the grade three’s did the Fantastic Five. We talked about writing a letter and making sure we ask the person we are writing to questions to show we care about them and are interested in them. The class wrote letters to Santa, did independent reading, group reading, worked on a rough draft paragraph about Advent and had a work period.

Monday November 28

The grade three’s started their day with the first of four advent assembly. After assembly the students worked on their spelling pre-test and spelling sentences.

After recess the grade three’s had a work period and then a math lesson on 3 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.

This afternoon the school attended a play in the gym about recycling and how to take care of the environment. We finished off the day with group science projects where students resumed working on a large poster size food web. They also used ipads to help them research parts of the food web.

Friday November 25

The grade three’s started their day with the Fantastic Five. The students did independent reading, group reading, a comprehension sheet about the Blue Nose, animal research and completed their good copy metaphor poems from yesterday.

After recess the students had a work period to finish morning activities and worked on illustrations for their animals research.

This afternoon the class had their spelling test, read and began a Christmas project for the concert.

Thursday November 24

The grade three’s started their morning with the Fantastic Five. Ms. Sheppard did a lesson with the Grade three’s on metaphors. The students then worked on a math sheet, metaphor poem, comprehension sheet, group reading and independent reading.

After recess the students had a 20 minute work period to complete activities from this morning. The students then worked on the good copies of their metaphor poem.

This afternoon the grade three’s listened to Matilda. After, we talked about presentations and what makes a good presentations. Students then got into groups of 3 or 4 and presented to each other keeping in mind the clarity of their voice, volume of their voice and making eye contact with their audience. The class then worked on creating food web posters with their group.

Wednesday November 23

The grade three’s had a busy morning finishing up work and assignments from the past 2 days. Students then went to the library. Students had a lesson on text features in non fiction books. They completed worksheets identifying features in magazines and books. Students also did some math activities on the computer.

After recess the students continued to work on an unfinished work. The class then went to music.

This afternoon the students had PE. We finished off the day with a math addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Thursday November 17

The grade three’s started their day with the Fantastic Five. We first had a lesson on food webs and discussed how they are different from food chains. Students participated in group reading, independent reading, a work period, journal writing and creating a food web.

After recess the class had additional time to complete their science from this morning. The students then corrected math sheets from earlier in this week. We also practiced working on our pronunciation of the Hail Mary in French.

This afternoon the students listened to Matilda. Students then had the opportunity to complete their socials self assessment for their project for Ms. Sheppard as well as work on their Saint illustration and biography picture. The class finished off their day with PE.

Wednesday November 16

The grade three’s started off their day with religion. Students started a research project about saints. They selected a saint to research and wrote a paragraph about them. Students then went to the library, checked out library books and worked on their typing skills using the Dance Mat Typing website.

After recess the class continued to work on their saint paragraph. Students have been working on their proof reading and editing. They began their good copies and worked on their pictures.

This afternoon the grade three’s went to PE. Following PE we did some addition and subtraction review with word problem and double digit addition and subtraction. The students then had a short work period to continue working on the good copy of their saint project.
