Thursday May 18

The grade three’s had a substitute teacher today as Miss Sheppard was at a different school today. The teacher today was Miss Yip.

The grade three’s started off the day with the Fantastic Five. Students did independent reading, journal writing, a math review sheet, worked on their story boarding and had a work period.

After recess the students did another lesson on math and explored how long a minute is. The students then did a French lesson where they sang the “Je suis Une Pizza” song and learned some new French vocabulary from the song.

This afternoon the grade three’s made a title page for their new unit on “Thermal Energy”. The students then began working on a multicultural celebrations assignment.

Wednesday May 17

The grade three’s started their day with religion. The class wrote letters to Mary asking her two questions and telling her two things they admire about her. Students then went to the library where they read/listened to an article on Currents 4 Kids.

After recess the students continued to work on their letters to Mary before going to music.

This afternoon the students went to PE. The class finished off the day by starting off a new unit on measurement in math.

Tuesday May 16

The grade three’s started their day with PE. After PE the students had their math test.

After recess the students had a religion lesson on the Visitation and talked about some of Mary’s characteristics, possible thoughts and feelings during this time. The students then finished working on and listening to various versions of Little Red Riding Hood.

This afternoon the students did the first part of their standardized math testing. The class then participated in the Fantastic Five. Students did independent reading, group reading, handwriting, story boarding and had a work period.

Monday May 15

The grade three’s started their day with assembly. After assembly the class did their spelling pre-test, made corrections, put their words in the planners and started their spelling sentences.

After recess the students talked about different animals and pets in French. The students then did a final math review before their math test tomorrow.

This afternoon the class has music. Following music the students read three different versions of Little Read Riding hood and compared and contrasted to the version they are familiar with.  In science the class made ice cream floats after talking about density. The class then watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy show and answered questions about Matter.

Friday May 12

The grade three’s started their morning with the Fantastic Five. Students did independent reading, group reading, worked on their Purple, Green and Yellow comprehension sheets, journal writing and mother’s day activities.

After recess students reviewed pictographs in preparation for their math test on Tuesday. The class finished the morning off with looking at and talking about wordless picture books.

This afternoon the class did their spelling test. Miss Sheppard then showed the students a new art activity. Students worked on the new activity or finished their collages from last week.

Thursday May 11

The grade three’s started their day with the Fantastic Five. Students worked on independent reading, no group reading (as track students were away), a comprehension sheet, mother’s day activities and continued to work on Purple, Green and Yellow activities.

After recess the students did more review on bar graphs in preparation for their test next Tuesday. The students then did a lesson in French where they talked about pets.

This afternoon the class had a work period to finish activities from this morning. In science the class did an experiment based on a Dr. Seuss book (Track students will be looking at this tomorrow). Then the students continued to work on comparing and contrasting different versions of Cinderella. The grade three’s finished off the day with PE.

Tuesday May 9

The grade three’s started off their day with PE. After PE the students worked on a math review for their Data Analysis test next week.

After recess the students talked about the Annunciation of Mary. After the class discussion the students completed a worksheet about the lesson. The grade three’s finished the morning with a socials lesson. The students worked in small groups and looked at different cultural versions of the Cinderella story. Each group wrote down their observations on chart paper.

This afternoon the class worked on the last part of the Language Arts standardized testing. The students then participated in the Fantastic Five. Students did independent reading, group reading, worked on their Mother’s day card, handwriting and a comprehension sheet on the Robert Munsch story Purple, Green and Yellow.
